PERIODONTOLOGY
Branch of dentistry, which cures the anatomical structures that support the teeth, such as the periodontal ligaments, the alveolar bone structure, where the tooth is placed, the radicular cement which carries out the mechanical function of supporting the tooth and therefore the gums.
The primary purpose of Periodontology is to recreate the biological and anatomical conditions of a healthy gingiva through the correction of bone and mucogingival defects. The slow process of deterioration of the gingiva accentuates the risk of falling teeth, which can be stopped by adequate prevention and by the atraumatic treatments of the particular affection, or by techniques of bone and gingival regeneration.
